FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT CAN I EXPECT ON A SHE HIKES TOO TRIP?

You can expect inclusive and encouraging guides that are open, ready to lead and support you through the adventure.  You can expect to feel the spirit of teamwork and camaraderie with the group of other women you’ll be adventuring with. You can also expect to learn about Leave No Trace Principles and how to recreate responsibly in the outdoors.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST BENEFIT OF A SHE HIKES TOO TRIP?

So many! Here, we’ll focus on the top 3:

Wellness  - You will experience how time in nature improves your overall health and wellbeing, reducing stress, lifting your mood, making you feel more connected.

Empowerment - You’ll feel empowered and uplifted, knowing that you too, can hike a mountain, pitch a tent, and build a campfire – and you’ll be able to encourage and teach others to do it too.

Connection - When we bring a diverse group of women together for a shared positive experience, all of us gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of one another.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BASE CAMPING AND BACKPACKING?

Base camping typically means camping with our vehicle nearby, in an organized campsite. Each day’s adventure will start and end at the base camp. Backpacking is where we’ll be hiking our gear into a remote campsite not reachable by car.

WOULD SHE HIKES TOO CUSTOMIZE A TRIP FOR MY FRIENDS AND I?

Absolutely, we’d love to. We can work with you to create a unique and customized hiking adventure!

WHAT TRAINING AND EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT DO THE GUIDES HAVE?

Your guides are also the founders, with hundreds of trips of experience trekking and camping in the wilderness. They are equipped with first aid kits, Garmin satellite devices, Garmin 2-way radios, and are trained Wilderness First Aid Responders. Current conditions, your safety and risk management are taken seriously. Guides also hold a California Food Handler and Leave No Trace Level 2 certifications.

WHAT OUTDOOR SKILLS WILL I LEARN ON A SHE HIKES TOO TRIP?

We ask that all campers set up their own tent and sleeping gear. You'll also learn how to use a camp stove and filter water. You may even have the opportunity to learn how to start a campfire and read a topo map!

HOW IS SHE HIKES TOO DIFFERENT FROM OTHER ADVENTURE COMPANIES?

She Hikes Too is a boutique outdoor adventure company that only does a select number of small group trips every year in the Western United States. The trips are curated and led by the founders – a unique find compared to larger international outfitters.

I'M THINKING OF ATTENDING BY MYSELF, IS THAT OK?

Yes! We encourage women to attend solo, and you won’t be alone!

I HAVE DIETARY RESTRICTIONS, CAN SHE HIKES TOO ACCOMODATE ME?

Absolutely. We’re prepared to serve gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian and vegan meals on any of our trips. We are open to accommodating reasonable requests, in addition to omitting foods that cause allergies. Overall, we typically lean towards healthy vegetarian and organic foods, that are locally sourced whenever possible.

WHAT IF I'VE NEVER CAMPED BEFORE?

Our trips range from first time campers, to intermediate and advanced. Be sure to sign up for the trip that meets your experience, fitness level, and expectations.

HOW OLD OR YOUNG DO I NEED TO BE TO ATTEND A TRIP?

The minimum age to join a She Hikes trip solo is 18, due to liability and insurance requirements. However, girls aged 15-17 are welcome on any of our trips if accompanied by an adult/guardian. Women typically range from mid-30’s through mid-60’s.
